Laurent WYLER

Born in Geneva in 1959

Father of 3 children: Gaspard (1991), Hugo (1992) and Iris (2004)

When he was seven years old, Laurent Wyler started to study piano at the Jaques-Dalcroze Institute of Geneva. He then switched to percussion and worked with Caribbean percussionist Nicole BERNARD at the CERMAC of Fort-de-France in Martinique (1983). Finally, he decided on the drums. Self-taught, he began to play "pop" and "rock" with local bands. But then, he encountered jazz music and started studying jazz drumming at the CPM (Conservatoire Populaire de Musique) with Mr. Raoul ESMERODE, and earned his diploma (1990). During this time, he also played within workshops of jazz and improvised music, organised by AMR (Association pour la Musique impRovisée). He took private lessons with American drummers Bob MOSES (1997) and Sangoma EVERETT (1998). Between 1979 and 1982, Laurent Wyler took a break from his musical training to undertake social studies at the Social Studies Institute of Geneva where he earned a diploma in special education (1984). From this time on, he became involved with pedagogy and started teaching music in various contexts. He now works as the co-organiser of the music school EPI (Espace de Pratique Instrumentale) in Carouge where he also teaches the drums. He is also involved with other projects for the CPM. Laurent Wyler also works on his musical project "More Harmony" with his quartet (LW4): Ariane BESSON piano - Christophe BERTHET saxophones and Denis FAVRICHON acoustic bass.
